Crab Fest in Andros

The weather has been a little rainy over the last week or so but for Androsians that means one thing...CRABS! The rain drives all the land crabs out to the ocean, where they lay their eggs. Androsians catch the little critters and cook them up to make delicious meals. On June 12-15, there was an All Andros Crab Fest, where the Bahamians celebrated the land crabs. The population on the island tripled as everyone came home to Andros and celebrated with their families. Some of the SHB guests went out to the Park and enjoyed stuffed crab and all the festivities. New Staff at Small Hope Bay Lodge

Small Hope Bay Lodge has welcomed three new members to their dive staff over the last couple of months! Let's get to know them a little better...

Amanda comes to us from Oceanside, California. She has been diving for three years and spent four months interning in Manzanillo, Mexico before joining the staff along with her boyfriend, Loren (below), in April. Before coming to her senses and becoming a dive bum, she worked for years in Sales and Marketing in Southern California.

Loren also comes to us from Oceanside, CA. A true surfer in mind and body, it didn't take much encouragement for Loren to quit his job in the financial sector and hit the road to Mexico to become a dive instructor. Joining the Small Hope family is a dream come true!

Ashley joins our Small Hope family as a divemaster intern. The native Bahamian has quickly worked his way up to PADI Rescue Diver and is currently a Divemaster candidate. Besides his awesome and sunny personality, Ash also brings to the island his gift of guitar playing, which entertains and delights both the staff and guests!

All of the new staff cannot wait to meet each and every one of the big Small Hope Bay Lodge family. Come and see them soon! Pin It Now!

Thirty Six Years and Two Generations

Paul Sullivan and his youngest daughter, Chloe, joined us at Small Hope Bay Lodge once again this week. Paul has been coming to SHBL and diving with us since 1972. Chloe has been coming to Small Hope since "before she had a memory" or 1994. Now 18 and attending college at Dalhousie in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Chloe says that her favorite memories at Small Hope Bay Lodge were "playing with all the other kids and playing around on the rocks at low tide." As an adult, she now socializes with EVERYONE and is definitely a favorite part of the big Small Hope family.

Paul also brought his two oldest daughters, Justine and Camille, to SHBL when they were younger. Justine used to enjoy diving the numerous blue holes on Andros Island with former SHBL Divemaster, Brad. When asked what his favorite memories of Small Hope are, Paul said, "Going Over the Wall for the first time and listening to the wind through the Andros pines."

All of the family at Small Hope Bay Lodge cannot wait to see the Sullivans again! Pin It Now!
